8 Weeks Out
- Get moving quotes. Ask how the price is calculated and what’s included.

4–6 Weeks Out
- Book your moving company and confirm the date in writing.
- Start packing rooms you don’t use every day.
- Book elevators at both buildings if you’re in a condo.
- Arrange school records, medical records and prescriptions.
2–3 Weeks Out
- Set up Canada Post mail forwarding.
- Arrange utilities and internet at your new home, and cancel or transfer them at your old one.
- Let your bank, employer and insurance company know your new address.
- If you’re staying in Ontario, plan to update your licence and health card with ServiceOntario.
The Week Before
- Finish packing everything except daily essentials.
- Pack a suitcase for the first few days, as if you were going on a trip.
- Empty, clean and defrost the fridge.
- Take apart furniture, or confirm your movers will do it.
Moving Day
Keep valuables, important documents, medication and your laptop with you, not on the truck. Do a final walk-through of every room, closet and cupboard before the truck leaves.
